Review of The Brothers Grimm (2005) by Ryan M — 28 Jul 2010
This movie was the most disappointing movie I have seen in years. The cover and back looked fantastic, rich coloring, some of my favorite actors, and a fun premise. However the movie it's self was one of the worst I have seen in a long time.
However, this movie really boils down to what you like. It's to dark and weird for light hearted fun, and to light hearted to be the disturbing Gothic mind trip it could be. In the end it fits into neither category ending up as a strange, pointless, journey into a land filled with giggling torturers and gleefully lame plot lines.
It's a disturbing, scary, dark comedy-thriller that isn't scary, funny, or thrilling. stay away unless for some weird reason you want to waste 1 hour and 58 minutes of your life. However, I must give kudos to how gorgeous it is.
Behind the pointless plot and disturbing people there is a beautiful and strange world reminiscent of Tim Burton. Also, there is this one character, a silent, smug butler, who is just great. five stars to the silent, smug butler, four to the setting, and one to the plot.
In all, avoid. If you must watch it, watch it with a blindfold and ear plugs.
