Review of The Brothers Bloom (2008) by Bradley A — 25 Mar 2011
Cast, Plot, Cinematography, Sountrack... I can watch this film a million times and never get tired of it! Though I must admit, I only thought it was ok the first time I watched it. I ended up giving it a second change and realized how good it really was.
It stays perfectly simple while being quite complex (in terms of plot verses meaning and themes)... I think it requires a second watch to truly enjoy the movie. Currently one of my favourite films. I love the examination of a love story within a con film, and whether the audience can place trust in love.
"The perfect con is one where everyone involved gets just the thing they wanted." - even the audience. Even though it leads where you want it to go, it does so in a way that still entertains, surprises, and is meaningful.
"Trying to get something real by telling yourself stories is a trap. "I love the metaphors and connections throughout the story. "tastes like tinfoil". "There is no such thing as an unwritten life, only a badly written one.
"I can't say enough of how perfect each member of the cast fit their role and the soundtrack and costumes fit the plot.Through this film Rian Johnson has become my favourite director (and more so since he's also the writer)All I can say to everyone who doesn't like this film, is that they are all "playground bourgeoisies!".
