Review of The Brood (1979) by Carl N — 03 Mar 2010
I must admit that I found this a little average for a David Cronenberg film. Sure it's got the benchmark Cronenberg bizarre obsessions and social criticism. It's also at times very suspenseful and the murder scenes are graphic and extremely brutal.
We also get the customary Cronenberg feel good ending. (Yes I'm being sarcastic) Oliver Reed and Samantha Eggar give great performances. But all this can?t conceal the fact that this is a dull and tediously boring film.
The whole film plods along until we get to the infamous disturbing scene. (Yes it is shocking) but then it's too late. After enjoying so many of Cronenberg's films this was a real let down.
