If you're trying to convince people that "old films" are best, then this definitely needs to be one of your weapons. The pacing is fantastic w/ superb performances from everyone involved (Alec Guinness is especially standout).
The cinematography is gorgeous. It's also a "war movie" that you could show people who don't like war movies (due to the fact that much of the war in this context isn't only the backdrop, but extremely metaphorical and very internal).
There is no reason that this film shouldn't be in everyone's movie collection.
