Review of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) by Andrew R — 23 Apr 2012
The sheer scope, and magnitude that this film achieves alone gets it such a high ranking. Add William Holden, Alec Guiness, and an amazing plot you get the perfect war film. This is a film that really makes you think, you sympathize with the characters, and realize just how much being a Prisoner of War affects them.
Alec Guiness almost has a change of heart, he cares about this bridge he put so much effort into and doesn't want to see it die. Yet he realizes that he has completely lost sight of the bigger picture, the war has left his mind.
Such a multilayered film that I will watch many times in the future.
