Excellent film. Definitely one of the best war films I've seen. "The Bridge on the River Kwai" has many strengths (acting, screenplay, special effects, etc.) but its greatest successes are the characters, the questions they ask, and the decisions they make.
Grand questions of right and wrong are taken out of the usual hands of the countries/leaders fighting the war and placed squarely in the laps of the individual characters we follow. Those characters and their choices are so interesting that you can't help but walk away questioning what you believe and what you would do in similar situations.
