Review of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) by Eamonn S — 24 Jan 2012
The Bridge On The River Kwai is a film from 1957 about British prisoners-of-war including Col. Nicholson (Alec Guinness) who is ordered by the Japanese to build a bridge on the river Kwai, and an American soldier Shears (William Holden) whose job is to dig the graves for the dead. Later, he escapes and ends up on the team sent out to blow up the bridge that Col. Nicholson has just stopped building for the Japanese.
This film is funny, sad and thrilling. I found Alec Guinness was great because you never stop rooting for him. David Lean did a great job directing this film. The script was fantastic and I would rank it up there with Lawrence of Arabia.
