Review of The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) by Chris D — 24 Feb 2012
An epic film with a equal-sized cast, "The Bridge On The River Kwai" was a fantastic yarn about an army who is tasked to build a rather enormous bridge over a very short period of time. Guinness and Holden are absolutely riveting, and I couldn't turn away from the screen whenever they were on it.
The way in which Guinness' madness unfolds is so subtle and gradual that I didn't even see it coming, and even rooted for his character's remarkably principled stand, much as his officers and troop did.
The film does a wonderful job of exposing the absolute folly of war: how the same army can be on both sides of a project and yet both have very justifiable reasons for it being that way. Highly, highly recommend.
