Review of The Brides of Dracula (1960) by Simon-Félix L — 11 Jan 2011
Forget Dracula (inclusion of which in the title is but a cheap marketing ploy), this should have been called "Van Helsing: the Movie". What this is is not only a great vampire movie, but an icon of early 60s gothic horror.
Cushing doesn't appear until after more than 15 min. in the movie, and you hardly notice it due to the efficiency of the plot. After that, Cushing, so well-settled in his Van Helsing character that one must almost consider it seminal, takes you the rest of the way, right up to the movie's hurried ending, keeping with the tradition of its 1930s predecessors.
A must-see.
