Review of The Bride Wore Black (1968) by Mohammed O — 20 Jul 2008
I hate to say it, but the word overrated springs to mind. You won't go away thinking you've wasted two hours of your life, but you won't think it was well spent either.
The film could have done with a pace injection - too many scenes dragged. Also, whoever scored this film clearly doesn't believe in the power of silence; every scene has a massive orchestral score, which distracted from what was happening onscreen. Finally, yes, Jeanne Moreau puts in a great performance and looks truly stunning - but we're never given much explanation as to the rationale of her actions - or maybe that's the point?
