Review of The Brave One (2007) by Julie F — 02 Feb 2009
Keeping in mind that we bring a lot of our stuff to the movies as well as our reviews, I was very disappointed by this venture. Not that I was expecting award winning performances, however I guess I was assuming / expecting / hoping that if Jodie took this project on, there would be â?¦ more.
Once we get past the decision to buy the gun, which did not seem to cause her much soul searching, her road from â??defending myselfâ?? to gambler to predator was also a series of decisions that did not seem to cause her much conflict.
If you are a proponent of revenge, this may work for you. I was troubled, again, that there were no consequences for her actions. Even the lives that she took that had no relation to her situation. And I donâ??t say that to imply that that body count is justified.
More so as an observation that the public (right or wrong / good or bad) seems to be more tolerant or forgiving of â??evening the scoreâ??. Maybe the fact that the timing of viewing this movie coincided with the Supreme Court decision to re-arm Washington DC disturbed me even more.
The other choice that the filmmakers made that was interesting was the Travis Bickle-esq voice over.
