Review of The Brave One (2007) by Victoria K — 17 Mar 2009
Another superbly directed film from Neil Jordan, even if his topic here is less original than usual. It's a good revenge flick though, and it had no trouble holding my attention. I have to give Jodie Foster a lot of the credit for that, as I loved watching her psychological transformation as the movie progressed, which was sometimes subtle and other times sudden, but always believable.
What I found less believable was her relationship with the police detective, which could also be why I had a hard time digesting the ending. I understand what Jordan was trying to do by straying from the cliches of the genre, but it just came across as kind of ridiculous.
