Review of The Brave One (2007) by Michelle W — 10 Apr 2009
Erica Bain and her fiance are brutally attacked. She survives but her husband doesn't, and before she know it, Erica becomes New Yorks vigilante.
Jodie Foster is amazing, the more work of hers I see the more in awe I am. Having her character as a radio host is perfect because her voice is fascinating. Completely in control, calm, yet powerful and haunting. And thats what her performance is like she fully embodies a cold blooded killer. Only she can be charming, scared, and hysterical too.
The plot and premise is interesting, ambitious at best. A female vigilante. Is that so wrong? Its an interesting dive into a vigilantes mind, but it nver fully developed its ideas of right and wrong and I am not left with a clear message. With such a provocative topic, you almost have to say something.
This film is a powerful as Fosters acting, but its intentions unclear. Definitely worth a view though.
