Neil Jordan's dreamlike The Brave One dares to take a B-movie thriller plot (most likened to 1974's Death Wish) and ask us whether vigilantism is right. Is it? Watching this film, the characters' seem to feel that it is justified, but these characters are flawed, filling the emptiness left by divorce and the death of a fiancee with self-justified murder of street thugs and corrupt men.
In the end, these characters have changed, and The Brave One reveals itself to be a film mainly about how change is inevitable and necessary to cope with life's struggles.
