Review of The Brave One (2007) by Chip S — 26 Aug 2009
Not terrible, but...eh. What's the commentary supposed to be here? Obviously, the only real difference is that the vigilante is a woman instead of the usual man. So, that means...the kills won't be as gruesome? The vigilante will be more of a victim? Or the cops'll just have a harder time figuring out who the vigilante is, because even the seasoned pros could never, never believe a woman would do this? The latter seems reinforced by the fact that the film oddly tries to convince us that all the guys think Jodie Foster is really hot.
'Cuz hot women don't go ape-s*** vigilante when their fiances are brutally murdered in front of them, or something. But maybe an even bigger problem with that for me, aside from the questionable logic and gender commentary, is that I totally buy Foster as a bad-ass lashing out after her life is turned upside down and I totally don't buy her as some hot bombshell.
Apparently, the guys in the movie think the reverse.
