Review of The Brave One (2007) by Halimali H — 07 Mar 2010
Now for me this movie was like a superhero movie. The female version of a superhero movie. Somehow and for no particular reason it reminded me of M Night Shaymalan's Unbreakable. Of course this is nowhere near that.
The story is about a popular radio host in New York city Erica Bain (Jodi Foster) who one night while walking with her lover they get beaten until death. Bain survives the incident and starts to take revenge randomly at whoever she faces and think is bad.
Even though Jodi Foster gave a moderately good performance but she could not save the movie from becoming boring. The movie was extremely predictable. I cannot call this a thriller but a pure drama movie that lacked many basic aspects of a drama.
The way the movie looked was just ok. But I have to give credit to the makers The Brave One for choosing the right actrress for the role. It is hard for me to think anybody else playing Erica Bain other than Foster. I'm not saying this because Foster gave excellent performance, No. What I mean that the chracter needed someone to look and sound tough and Jodi was perfectly casted here and gave those characteristics that this role demanded from her.
I cannot recommend this movie to anyone but you may want to check it if you like Foster's work, but again Foster have lots of other movies that are way better than The Brave one.
