Review of The Brave One (2007) by Patrick M — 12 Jan 2013
Neil Jordan takes us through the dark side of New York city, once again exploring the underworld this time with a story of an unlikely vigilante figure found in a female radio talk show host, angered and bitter after a brutal and random attack killed her fiancée.
Jodie Foster as a vigilante feels like a return to the scene of a crime after one of her earliest performance in another classic built around such a subject in Taxi Driver. The film, however, is hardly flattering for both her and the director Neil Jordan, with its slow developments and sluggish pace.
The setting of a post 9/11 New York city and the interesting psychology of the characters that is never underlooked makes this film at least interesting.
