Review of The Boys Are Back (2009) by Lori W — 08 Oct 2009
I can't say this was not an entirely unpredictable movie, but I really liked it a lot. It was a really honest and personal story with some fine acting by Clive Owen, Laura Fraser, Emma Booth, the two young actors who play his sons.
.. Everyone displayed real emotions that felt extremely authentic, and it totally worked. The other thing I really liked about the movie was the cinematography. Many scenes were meant to give you the perspective of a child, and they did so really effectively.
It also doesn't hurt that they captured the vastness, beauty, and wildness of Australia. This wasn't the most uplifting movie, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to see a good family drama that addresses the complexities of relationships.
