Though predictable and occasionally overwrought, Clive Owen's mesmerising performance brings soul to a potent tale of redemption. Since the 1979 masterpiece Kramer vs. Kramer, perhaps no film has so actively engaged the argument that men can raise children as well as women, and the film deserves credit for that.
