Review of The Boys Are Back (2009) by Anthony D — 01 Feb 2010
Clive Owen is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors (even though he starred in the atrocious Shoot 'Em Up). I've always enjoyed his intense portrayals of characters like those in Sin City and The International.
This time he plays a successful sports writer that loses his wife to cancer. He struggles with the grief of his loss and the difficulties dealing with his young son, whom he hardly knows. In the midst of all this, his eldest son - whom he left behind to be with his recently deceased wife - comes to visit and he is forced to confront the decisions he made in the past and how they affected his boys.
Based on a true story, The Boys Are Back is funny and touching. Keep the Kleenex handy for this one.
