Review of The Boys Are Back (2009) by Cory B — 03 Feb 2010
Clive Owen should have been in serious best actor consideration this year for his role, but, because of the folding of Miramax, they kind of stopped caring about the 'Oscar stuff' and started caring about 'losing their jobs.
' Anyway, The Boys Are Back is NOT a sappy, Lifetime story about a father losing his wife and having to raise two sons on his own. Well, it is that last part, but it's done very well, and is very inventive in the 'visiting spirits' category.
Clive Owen seriously shines here and finally plays a role where he's not a gritty agent or some kind of bad-ass. He's just a desperate father trying to figure it all out. This is truly a must-see for Clive fans and for fans of gripping broken family dramas.
