Review of The Box (2009) by Greg L — 07 Jun 2011
There are some interesting ideas and ethical dilemmas at the core of this, but the big problem is that they would work much better as part of a philosophy class thought experiment than they do as the premise for a movie.
The story is glaringly contrived and artificial, the characters more effective as cardboard stand-ins for ideas than as believable human beings, and the result is a movie that despite its well-intentioned efforts to make you think and its aspirations to profundity is pretty dumb.
If you want a thought-provoking psychological thriller, there are much better options out there.
