Review of The Bourne Legacy (2012) by Anthony N — 07 Jun 2014
The only reason people are complaining-as far as I can tell at least-is because Matt Damon isn't in this movie. To me, that's a stupid complaint. Get over it. There's a new character. He's played by a very capable actor, and he's just as bad-action as Jason Bourne, so what's the issue?
See, the movie itself is a perfect sidequel for the Bourne series because it introduces a very interesting and compelling new lead, while still staying connected to the world of the previous movies.
The romantic interest this time around is also much more interesting than the previous romantic interest in the Bourne movies. She's much more fun to watch, and her acting seems more capable as well.
But, wait, don't go in expecting tons of nonstop action. This is the start of a new trilogy. So expect to have about the same amount of action you got in Identity, not in Supremacy or Ultimatum. That said, the action sequences that are here are some of the best in the series. Especially the thrilling chase at the end of the movie.
Speaking of the end, that's the only part of the movie that seemed a little weak to me. Mostly because it wasn't as good as the endings of the last two movies. Its ending is about as good as Identity's.
In summary, I think the criticisms with this film are unfounded. The movie's great. I'd say it's on par with Identity (though, I may like Identity more just because I love origin stories so much), better than Supremacy, but not quite up to the level of Ultimatum. But it's a great movie in its own right and it deserves to be seen.
