Review of The Bourne Identity (2002) by Clayton R — 04 Aug 2012
I don't know, should I even bother to rate this on flixster or should I just pretend I'm not watching this trilogy? This is a mediocre movie with incredibly tight action sequences but unbearably boring character building and dialogue.
Also the depictions of the CIA are really unbelievable. Julia Stiles uses MICROSOFT PAINT for god's sake. Also seems like we can do a little better than making the only black guys in the movie the evil foreign nation (I know the CIA is the "real" villain of the film, but come on).
Other grievances: Matt Damon's distracting, thumb-in-the-air kissing style, nonsensical behavior from Marie and from Bourne, criminal waste of Julia Stiles (literally anyone could have played her part) that makes it clear she was just a name to draw movie-goers, and how the best part of the movie is the fight scenes and there are only like two.
What a waste. I will say though that there are a lot of pleasing images here. Bourne walking into the security firm in Paris, Bourne outside with the shotgun, and the CIA guy on the tarmac at night, these are great looking scenes.
