Review of The Borrower (1991) by Adam E — 10 Jul 2011
Harmless gore fun that whizzes by at a happy pace and never outstays its welcome! Its midly funny and borrows from a hell of a lot of other movies but at the end of the day its fun. The plot is threadbare and has 2 police pople trying to find an alien that takes peoples heads off when his gets knackered! Thats its.
Theres scenes of the police chasing him and another serial killer thats on the loose and the alien wanders around confused a lot. This film seems to have no real direction thou kinda like its not sure what it wants to be.
They just throw stuff at the screen (sex, violence and a guy with a dog for a head!) and see what happens. Most of it works but it means the final payoff at the end just comes and goes. The cops are just there, theres not much depth to them and there story arc ending is a bit naff.
I suppose the main problem is that theres no real ending because the alien is not malicious. It only kills people when its head is knackered and it needs a new one then it eats there body. It never goes on a massive rampage and because it for the most part does not talk theres no threat ended there.
They try at the end to give it an extra jolt but it just does not work. Fun movie thou and you never get bored as the pace never flags. Entertaining nonscence is the best description of this :).
