Review of The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day (2009) by David W — 30 Dec 2012
I'm a big fan of the original Boondock Saints. There's nothing I love more then a cool can-do indie. It was a movie that spoke to a working class audience frustrated by Hollywood's gutless action films.
The sequel is an example of the law of diminished returns. Most of the plot revisits the action and story beats as the first film, I can forgive this as the action is well done. Where this really falters is in the new additions to the cast, who seem wildly out of place.
Julie Benz comes off like she's doing a bad impersonation of Holly Hunter in Copycat. Clifton Collins Jr. is badly miscast and Judd Nelson proves his best days are behind him. If you loved the first film, watch this one to but be aware this is not a great follow up to the original.
