Review of The Boondock Saints (1999) by Reid M — 06 May 2012
The Boondock Saints is a movie about two Irish brothers living in Boston that become vigilantes. It starts of when the two brothers Connor and Murphy McManus are partying in a bar on Saint Patrick's day, and a few guys from the Russian mob walk in. The Russian mobsters say that they are shutting down the bar, and that causes a fight. After Connor and Murphy embarrass the huge mobsters by beating them up, they go home and go to bed. The next day however the same mobsters come to their apartment to exact revenge on the McManus brothers but the brothers struggle and fight back, eventually killing the mobsters. Shortly after killing the Mobsters, the brothers turn themselves in to police, because it was what their religion told them was the right the to do. After being questioned by the police, they were released because it was self defense, and the cops believed it actually did them a favor.
That night, the brothers receive a vision they believe to be from God telling them to rid Boston of the evil that is controlling it.
After making their their way through almost the entirety of the Yakavetti crime family, they begin to infiltrate the Leader, Papa Joe's home they are captured. They manage to escape the home after a firefight with their long lost father, and later they become reunited and decide to rid Boston of the crime syndicate together.
The movie then skips a few months ahead, to a courtroom scene where Papa Joe is being tried. Then the McManus brothers and their father, with the help of some Boston Police officers burst into the courtroom and execute Papa Joe while reciting their signature prayer. They then "disappear" and the movie ends with street interviews asking about the vigilantes dubbed as "The Saints.".
