Review of The Boondock Saints (1999) by Brendan C — 26 May 2012
The Boondock Saints, either you love it or you hate it. Willem Dafoe, as good an actor as he is, has the most ridiculous and distracting role in the entire film. It's just... ridiculous. Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus do a good job as the brothers, and Billy Connolly is an interesting choice for a bad ass mobster murdering hit man, but Troy Duffy (imitation Tarantino) doesn't even attempt to set up Billy's character as (spoiler alert) the brother's father.
I don't think it deserves the extreme hate that it gets, but the absolute love and adoration it receives is just as over the top.
