Review of The Boondock Saints (1999) by Charles R — 22 Dec 2012

Not without it's flaws, there are basically 2 things that make this a good movie: the bombastic execution sequences and Willem Dafoe's fantastic (though no words could do it true justice) performance.

The ending quite fascinated me as well; though anti-climatic it put a whole new spin on the previous 100 minutes. Ultimately it's a very open ending, asking: who really are the madmen? Our protagonists, who are essentially gun toting religious nuts? The emotional unstable, and by the end quite possibly completely nuts, Paul Smecker? The dubiously motivated Rocco? And of course the dozens of (dead) gangsters the film is littered with? I would doubt that Troy Duffy is as in favour of the Saints vigilante ideologies as his critics would lead us to believe.
