Review of The Boondock Saints (1999) by Dylan D — 26 Jan 2013
One of the most atrocious films ever made. Other than the two brothers, the acting is hilariously bad. The direction is awful, at times it's as if characters don't even realize they're supposed to be talking to each other and having a conversation.
The bad Russian guys are filmed from way below, with the camera looking up in the air to show off how big and scary they are... except that they aren't. They're cliche, stereotypical villains with hilariously fake Russian accents.
The good guys who fight back against them follow silly scripted speeches that are supposed to be powerful and full of strength/passion, not seeming to realize how unrealistic and stupid each of the speeches actually is.
Then the movie believes it challenges the viewer with it's do or die take on vigilante justice. Yet it never made me question anything, it's just so poorly made that I couldn't even take it seriously.
And all of those criticisms are ignoring the fact that the movie dramatizes killing people you think are evil. This movie thinks it's intelligent, groundbreaking cinema, and it's not. It's just stupid, horrific film making.
