Review of The Book Thief (2013) by Stephen L — 01 Apr 2014
As one of my favourite books, I almost didn't go to see this film due to the critics.
But I'm glad I did as I thoroughly enjoyed it, perhaps because I understood better than many critics who had no insight into what the book was about and many of whom seem to assume a WWII film requires jackboots and violence aplenty.
Of course like most book adaptations there was plenty missing, especially the beautiful literature & prose which was the key element of the book (the hint's in the title) and was never going to be able to be portrayed on film.
If you've never read the book I strongly recommend it whether you enjoyed the film or not.
