Tough times portrayed sympathetically. Shades of Heimat. Film better than bok, by the simple editorial decision to minimise the Death(ly) Narrator. it doesn't enhance, merely trivialises and patronises.
Death the Narrator's done brilliantly in 'oh What a Lovely War' and doesn't warrant repetition.
