Review of The Book of Ruth: Journey of Faith (2009) by Katrina W — 12 Jun 2010
Ok so the two stars are for sticking to the Bible pretty much....would actually give it higher for that as it did keep to the story well but what let it down was the poor acting and TERRIBLE props and styling.
Naomi looked so American with her blowdried poofed out fringe and shiny pink lipgloss and perfect fine thread wrap and clothing. There is a scene in a marketplace and it just was not realistic. It looked like someone had raided the church dress up closet or bought costumes brand new from a dress up place as it was all very white and clean (you cant get whites that clean in those times!). Ruth had her hair curled in a hairdresser - just lots of important details in keeping with the times. Nothing in that movie looked used or old or earthen as would have been the case. Even their home looked like a perfect new prop. One of the elders came out in what looked like a baby pink pillowcase on his head - probably was! And pink?? What were they thinking? You would never find that like that in those times!
Got bored and watched it on and off while doing other things. I guess it had to be drawn out as there's not much to that story in the Bible anyway.
