Review of The Book of Life (2014) by Shenandoah B — 08 Nov 2014
This movie is phenomenal. It has superb characters (who are not at all problematic), wonderful animation, and hilariously fitting songs. I have seen this movie 3 times in the last week, and after my first viewing I immediately went home and bought the soundtrack.
I have been listening to it on repeat ever since. It's a super touching movie that does absolutely everything right. Almost all the actors are people of color and it portrays a really nice variety of people.
My only qualm is that all the main women (and men for that matter) have the exact same body type. However, I feel that it was more a style choice to go along with the wooden dolls theme than anything else.
I never want to stop watching this movie and I usually hate re-watching films (at least this close together). I would recommend it to literally everyone (and I pretty much have). 10/10 would watch again, and again, and again, and again, and again.
