Review of The Book of Life (2014) by Lewis E — 03 Feb 2015
Brings something new to the table with its vibrant atmosphere and wood-based design but too often falls flat with childish humour, bad pacing and clichà (C) storytelling. The three main characters are fresh and some of the voice work is decent, particularly Ron Pearlman who didn't reach his potential because he was not playing the proper villain.
I also respect its success in discussing and portraying the realms of life and death in a colourful fashion. However, the pros are definitely outweighed by the cons, meaning 'The Book of Life' becomes another animation which fell below expectations.
