Review of The Book of Life (2014) by Gage B — 21 Nov 2014
Supernatural Spanish eye-candy extraordinaire Guillermo Del Toro returns to bring us this visually stunning fantasy tale that adds yet another segment to the canon of excellent 2014 animated films. Whether Del Toro is directing, producing or writing, he always manages to inject the usual dark, creepy, imagery into his projects that have made films such as Pan's Labyrinth, The Devil's Backbone and the Orphanage a hit.
Although, featuring a much lighter tone than a lot of his previous work as well as a weak beginning with a bit more forced humor than necessary, once the Book of Life finds it's footing in it's complex story, it becomes a non stop creative adventure full of many surprises and is destined to become a new holiday classic for those who celebrate the Day of the Dead.
