Review of The Bone Collector (1999) by Megan D — 31 Dec 2011
A decently enough crafted 'Se7en' wanna be. An ok script and edgy cinematography elevate a mediocre story to a tad above average, but still can't make the most of its potential.
Washington isn't at his finest, but is in his prime period as an actor. Jolie is pretty good, but definitely not awesome. With the potential of the plot along with the cast, you'd think this would be much better.
What keeps this movie in the simply 'ok' category is just a lack of menace. The killer never comes across as a credible threat. Some creative kills and good 'who done it' plot make it worth seeing, but can not measure up to many films of similar backbone.
