Review of The Boat (1921) by Kristen S — 27 May 2010
Maybe my favorite keaton short ever, this one has it all. buster is building a boat for his family, a long-suffering wife and two trouble-making boys. in pulling the boat out of his basement, he manages to tear down his entire house.
..so now the 'damfino' is a houseboat. I won't spoil all the delicious, inventive gags (including some hilarious intertitle puns--no. really!), but this one is really worth seeking out. it presages some of the brilliance of 'the navigator' and takes some really darkly comedic chances.
amazing stuff.
