Review of The Blues Brothers (1980) by Brad G — 01 Aug 2011
On a mission from God, Jake & Elwood Blues scour Sweet Home Chicago in an effort to bring the band back together and save their financially strapped Orphanage; all the while Carrie Fischer's Bazooka, a caravan of hillbilly musicians, and the Illinois Nazis are hot on their tale.
An American Classic! The Blues Brothers still manages to be funny as hell while at the same time succeeding as a damn fine R & B musical with stellar acts from James Brown, Cab Calloway, and Aretha Franklin.
John Landis knows to play the fantasy and madness straight and lets the bellylaughs come from the situation rather than jokes & hahas. And yeah, this flick still contains some of the best car crackups in cinematic history.
