Review of The Blob (1988) by Chase F — 07 Apr 2009
I truly love this movie. Definately one of the best remakes ever. I still watch this 80's gem of a horror. Finally we were able to see exactly what damage the blob could do to a human body and though gruesome, its still excellently done.
They were extremely imaginative about how certain people died including a guy being flattened by the blob then pulled off like flypaper, a guy being pulled down an extremely small plughole (you have to see it to believe it and its well worth it) and even a guy snapped in half.
This one does what the others dared not to show and that is how the blob digests it's victims. The special effects are excellently done as well and be warned this is very graphic. Arms come off, bodies implode and even desolve before your very eyes.
Kevin Dillon is great as a the lead "badboy" of the story and Shawnee Smith does a good job screaming and running away from the blob which this time doesn't just look like a blob of strawberry jam and more a blob of.
....whatever it's made of. 80's was the time of good remakes and yet this is hailed as one of those greats and I can't see why. The blob is every bit as good as The Fly and The Thing. So if you want a fun yet terrifying film then you'll love the Blob.
