It's okay, but is (maybe it is too obvious to say?) best when it sits squarely in scenes of ingestion, some of which are really quite creative and well done. Bravo to the F/X team and the writers for coming up with them.
Attempts at characterization, on the other hand, are only adequate, and the movie really pisses me off when a character introduces a beached whale of backstory by saying "Let me tell you a story .
..". BARF.
