Review of The Blob (1988) by Brendan N — 23 Oct 2018
A bona fide cult film that was ignored on release but lived on throughout VHS and now DVD. I caught this on the big screen last night and it is all sorts of brilliant, just the curve ball at the hospital will keep you on the edge of the seat throughout.
The key to the film is the characters and Darabont is the key reason for the films success, you only have to look at a Nightmare on Elm Street 3 for an example. The Blob is relentless and that ending will leave you with a what if moment.
The film never garnered a sequel but it is prime to have one now that dormant franchises are being resurrected. If you get the chance, watch this on the big screen as the budget was not wrong by using half of it on the creature.
This is one of my guilty pleasure horror films and it was one of the best horror nostalic moments I have had in quite some time. 24/10/2018.
