Review of The Blob (1958) by Aj V — 25 Oct 2010
This was a B-movie that became really big after the premiere of Wanted: Dead or Alive, a television show starring Steve McQueen. McQueen did The Blob before the TV show, but the movie did not do much until it was rereleased to promote McQeen as a major star. And it did make him a star.
The movie is goofy and silly, but McQueen carries the picture while most of the other actors deliver their lines as if they are reading them off a teleprompter.
The movie is about an amoeba-like blob that becomes bigger and stronger after each person it devours. There are some fun effects and some really good cinematography, but most of it is quite dated. I enjoyed it mostly for McQueen and to see a movie about 1950's teens. I actually liked the remake from the 80's better.
