Review of The Blob (1958) by Michael H — 02 Oct 2012
Watching The Blob is one hell of a experience. It is not only scary by yesterday's standerds, its scary by today's standerds. I mean, a flesh eating monster that you want to eat? THAT IS JUST CREATIVE! No, I really mean it! The Blob is the original flesh eating monster film. Its also original in characters. Why? Well First Off, Its characters Steven Andrews is played by Steve Mcqueen in one of his first roles. His girlfriend and him find some kind of thing fall from the sky. They decide to check it out when all of a sudden a old man appears out of nowhere with a thing attached to his arm. The thing is some sort of Extract that goes in syrup. But if you touch it, it attaches to you and eats you alive. When they take him to the hospital it desolves the man and becomes THE BLOB! Now The teenagers and cop Dave must stop the Blob before it eats all of the town! The character Dave is highly original. Because hes not a cop that just says "Your Lying I should put you in the cellar." No no no no, He is a cop that understands which is very original. The Blob effect is amazing and I JUST WANT TO EAT IT! I mean who would not want to eat the blob? It looks so tasty. But the Blob is also threatening by its looks. It has no eyes, bones or body parts. Its just goo. Its genius. Goo that eats people is Genius. The ending is also a marvel predicting the future of today. It was correct. Not only is this movie intelligent but it has some of the best uses of cinematography ever in a scene for a film. Its where everyone starts to run out of the movie theatre. The movement of the camera is fierce and powerful making a huge scary feeling. The teens are actually quite smart in this movie unlike other slasher films today. They dont just have sex and die, they actually do intelligent things like help Steven and his girlfriend Jane warn the town that a monster is coming. The acting is incredible and Steve Mcqueen made a big impression on his acting skills when this was first released. The effects still hold up today as they are cool and wonderful. The storyline is highly campy with high levels of fun which will keep you watching until the end. The Blob Is A Original, Marvel of horror cinema.
98/100 A.
