Review of The Bling Ring (2013) by Scott A — 23 Aug 2013
I guess this and Springbreakers are two films that are on par with each other. They are both about four women who join a man, and going on a crime spree. They both feature shallow people, good looking cast and nice soundtracks.
But I swayed more to this film. The lead guy here is a loner who finds this girl he instantly feels he could be best friends with. I could totally relate, as that happened to me last year. Springbreakers lead guy was a gangsta wannabe and those people just annoy me.
The editing, pace and camera work was also far better than the mess in that department Springbreakers was.
Emma Watson is pretty great here, as she nails the being fake 24-7 feeling Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian always emote. Taissa Farmiga looks like her sister, but she doesn't really get much to do. The only real development is that of the lead character Marc. But like Springbreakers, these characters are left shallow and we don't get much development from them. But they are still fun to watch be idiots.
I just wish there was more in the end. Once they get caught, the movie seems to want to end asap! Would've liked to see how the girls interacted with Marc a bit more.
