Review of The Black Swan (1942) by Bill T — 18 Jun 2011
The Black Swan, you know, the 1942 version, right? is a bit of a slow Pirate movie that manages to finally going plot wise about 1/2 way through the movie. While you're waiting for that, you can marvel at the awesome 3 strip technicolor thing going on, and as well, feast on the ravishing Maureen O'Hara.
Tyrone Power is in full pirate mode here, nothing really out of the ordinary that hasn't been done by other actors, Laird Cregar actually steals the show with his portrayal of Captain Morgan.. Yes, THAT Captain Morgan, before he was pasted on whiskey.
So there's lots going for it, except maybe the story, which could have used some work.
