Review of The Black Cat (1981) by Jarett B — 22 Jan 2008
This is the worst Poe adaptation I've ever seen, or even dreamed could exist. Fulci was never said to be subtle, and that is exactly what this story needs in order to succeed. The cat's 1st person perspective is laughable and just plain unimaginative.
The worst part might be that Fulci tries to revert back to the original story line of Poe's tale after he massacres it; also, the fact that the film is titled "The Black Cat" would make Poe roll in his grave--the two men?s styles are not compatible.
