Review of The Black Balloon (2008) by Gry G — 26 Apr 2008
Terrific movie, very moving and a realistic look at a family coping with incredibly difficult circumstances. All the actors are 100% credible in their roles - plaudits especially to Luke Ford as the autistic brother Charlie and Gemma Ward who gave a lovely performance as Thomas' would-be girlfriend.
All the others are terrific as well - Toni Collette proves yet again that she's one of our best talents, and I loved Erik Thomson's chats with his teddy bear. Rhys Wakefield was also a stand-out.
This runs the gamut of all the emotions and hopefully will be remembered at AFI time.
