Review of The Black Balloon (2008) by Nathan C — 24 Nov 2012
A truly great movie from Australia. It's tender, heart-wrenching, uplifting, and really pulls you in. Luke Ford's portrayal of an autistic character is genuine. The other performances are great, especially Toni Collette's performance as the mother who struggles to keep everything together.
Conventional storyline is enhanced by its period setting, vivid imagery, and powerful scenes. Similar to "What's Eating Gilbert Grape", though it shows more honesty and isn't as depressing.
