Review of The Bishop's Wife (1947) by Tamara H — 04 Dec 2007

This is clearly one of my favorite movies, let alone my favorite holiday movie. Legend has it that originally, Cary Grant was cast as the bishop, and Niven had the other part (shhh!), and the actors asked to switch parts in an act of brilliance.

I cannot imagine either of them in the other role. And Loretta Young was beautiful...the boy choir scene at the church always makes me cry. Was remade as the Preacher's Wife, which, while on its own is okay, but pales in comparison to the classic.
